Robotics and Dental Implants

While we may know about the various types of dental implants: subperiosteal implants, all-on-4 dental implants, endosteal implants, implant overdentures, and implant-supported bridges, there is much to discuss how robotics has completely broken ground in dental implant technology.

Over the years, robots have assisted and even enhanced physicians in all different types of surgeries. With these robotic technologies, the surgical experience has been improved and enhanced forever.

Specifically, in dentistry, robots have proven to increase accuracy, workflows, and precision. They have even been able to provide outstanding results for patients. Robotics and navigational surgery technology allow surgeons to enhance their dental implant procedure by improving their precision and consistency.

Because this technology has proven to be successful for many patients, we should expect to see more robotic dental technology in the future and specifically, as it relates to dental implants and other complex dental procedures.

ITero: Intraoral Scanner

If you have undergone a dental procedure, you may have had to make an impression of your teeth by sinking your teeth into a goop-filled tray. Luckily, this unpleasant experience is becoming more obsolete by the day due to intraoral scanners like ITero. An intraoral device scans a patient's mouth, creating a digital impression of their teeth and surroundings. Unlike goop-filled trays, the intraoral scanner procedure is quick and painless while also allowing the patient to move forward with their dental procedures seamlessly. Even more, these scans allow patients to see how their teeth may look after their restorative dental procedure is completed. For example, a patient may be able to see their teeth once the necessary time with their Invisalign or braces is over. We hope that this new dental technology will become the new standard and improve dental results and patient experiences moving forward.

Digital X-Rays

Unlike traditional X-rays, digital dental X-rays are essentially the same but have less radiation exposure to patients and instantly available images. In other words, your dentist will be able to examine your X-rays immediately after taking them and give them a better chance to analyze problem areas on the computer. Doing so also helps them see areas inside and below the tooth that are not always visible on traditional film X-rays.

In addition, digital dental X-rays can be taken intraorally or extraorally. When a dentist takes intraoral X-rays, they have the patient bite down on a bite-wing or periapical X-Ray.  Bite-wing X-rays require the patient to bite down in order to capture an image of the specific area where any decay, conditions of the bone, or other issues may be identified before the dental procedure begins. Periapical X-rays can show the entire tooth in addition to the bone surrounding it and abscesses or bone loss that may have been caused by gum disease.

On the other hand, extraoral X-rays are taken when the machine circles around the patient's head to take photos of all their teeth. This mechanism is often used to examine jaw issues, dental implants, or wisdom teeth.

Digital X-ray technologies are a testament to how much dental technology has improved in such a short amount of time.

CEREC One-Visit Crowns

Traditional crowns usually take a few weeks and multiple visits to the dentist’s officeto install in a patient's mouth. However, CEREC one-visit crowns only require one visit to your dentist. CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics and has revolutionized crowns and patients who need them forever.

In addition to the groundbreaking shortened wait time, CEREC crowns have even more benefits. For example, they tend to look more natural due to the fact that they do not have a metal core. They are also usually much stronger than traditional crowns.

Any technology that reduces time spent at the dental office is an excellent win for the dental industry and its patients.

LED Light Teeth Whitening

While teeth whitening products are available over the counter and professionally, LED teeth whitening has proven to offer the best results for many patients. This new teeth whitening procedure eliminates any unnecessary kits using potentially painful and harmful lasers. There is no doubt that at-home and professional LED teeth whitening will become more popular not only for its convenience but, more importantly, for its results.
